2) Wow, what an ingenious solution to something that should never have been an issue in the first case. If Apple had only put in an adequate fan...but that would have exceeded their self-imposed noise limits. Yet another case of Apple putting form over function. Regardless of my rant - you should sell these kits on the Internet.

4) Now that's a good fix...done in a very well executed manner. I can't say I've found the iMac G4 "flatmac" to run hot, though...even under the load of a distributed computing project. they seem to stay quite cool in operation. One other thing I see in these machines is that the logic board collects a *ton* of dust in a very short time.

5) Thank you for this excellent page and the useful links. Glad to know such good contributors like you are around...A very good work indeed. The air is meant to be sucked from bottom, through the computer, to the top. But have you by chance tested the reverse: blowing air from top, through computer, to the bottom? I mean, with such an external, noisy installation, you can allow yourself pure efficiency (and a more powerful fan), since you don't care anymore about design and noise?

6) Did you check the thermal bonding between the chips on the bottom of the motherboard and the metal base? The "screen fragmenting" would be the GPU overheating and the crash would likely be the CPU doing the same. Temperature Monitor would tell you the CPU temperature.

7) Have the same type of Mac and have never experienced (or read about) anything similar. Great job you seem to have done, topias, though it looks like it's not entirely fixed yet. There was a comment about "thermal bonding" that I would take seriously though (but I am in no way an engineer or a hardware specialist). It is said to be important that if you disassemble the iMac as you did, that you apply thermal paste before assembling again. May I assume you did that?

8) iMacin korjaus on mielenkiintoinen. Joku syy kuumenemiselle täytyy olla, muuten kaikki koneet olisivat yhtä huonoja? Tässä tapuksessa korjaus onnistui. Yhtä parannusta ehdottaisin. Kun sinun uusi puhaltimesi vetää aikamoisen määrän ilmaa koneen läpi, on odotettavissa, että pölyä tulee kerääntymään paljon. Asia korjautuisi siten, että alareuna ilmantuloaukkojen eteen ulkopuolelle laittaa ilman suodatinkankaan tai levyn. Jos suodatin estää liikaa ilman kulkua, voi olla syytä suurentaa reikiä tai asentaa suodatinkangas irti rei'istä siten, että yhtä reikää kohti tulee isompi suodatimkangasalue. Toinen mahdollisuus on laittaa puhallin toimimaan vastakkaiseen suuntaan ja ottaa sen ilma standardin pölyimurin HEPA-suodattimen läpi.
